Baritone RICARDO RIVERA is engaging audiences with his velvety, incisive sound and intelligent interpretation of operatic roles.
In the 2011-2012 season, Ricardo will make his Lincoln Center debut in the role of Orsini in Wagner’s “Rienzi” with the Opera Orchestra of NY with Eve Queler conducting in Avery Fisher Hall. In March, he will perform in the Semi-Finals of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. With members of eight blackbird and the Grammy Award-winning Pacifica Quartet, in the new music collective Contempo, he will perform Sophia Gubaidulina’s seminal “Perception”. This coming May, he will present the title role in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” with the Mannes Opera and Orchestra, under the baton of Joseph Colaneri.
This summer Ricardo will cover the roles of Enrico in Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” and Lescaut in Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut” with Chautauqua Opera. In the Fall of 2012, he will perform the role of Theseus in Christopher Park’s opera “Phaedra and Hippolytus” at the Palacio das Artes in Brazil.
Ricardo has performed the roles of Ford in Verdi’s “Falstaff”, Don Alfonso in Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte”, Moralès in Bizet’s “Carmen”, and Le chat/L’horloge comtoise in Ravel’s “L’Enfant et les sortilèges”, with the Castleton Festival, Opera North, Mannes Opera, and Pocket Opera of NY.
Ricardo won 1st Place in the Eastern Region of the 2012 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (MONC), 1st Place and Audience Prize in the 2011 NY Lyric Opera Competition, 4th Place in the 2011 Connecticut Opera Guild Competition, Encouragement Awards from the 2011 Gerda Lissner, 2011 Licia Albanese-Puccini, 2011 MONC, 2010 Opera Index, and 2010 Career Bridges Competitions, and was a recipient of the Richard F. Gold Career Grant in 2009.
He holds BM and MM degrees from Mannes College the New School for Music.
