MARCIA ECKERT is a New York-based pianist, teacher and recording artist. She is active as piano soloist and collaborative artist and has appeared at the Mostly Mozart Festival, as well as at Merkin, Alice Tully, and Weill concert halls, and London’s Leighton house. She has travelled throughout the United States playing chamber music and presenting lecture-recitals on piano music by women composers and on the music of Charles Ives. She was the pianist of the Dulcinea Piano Trio and has partnered cellist Timothy Merton and sopranos Cori Ellison and Susan Gonzalez.

Ms. Eckert and pianist Deborah Gilwood have presented many duo-piano programs, including one for children entitled Piano Magic: Beauties, Beasts, Bells and more…, presented most recently at the Howland Cultural Center in Beacon, NY, and at Mannes The New School for Music in New York City.

As a member of the Ehrlich/Eckert Duo, Ms. Eckert made a special project of presenting music for violin and piano by women composers. The duo’s recording of the music of Germaine Tailleferre was released on the Cambria label in March, 1995.

Ms. Eckert recorded Songs by Women with soprano Susan Gonzalez for Leonarda Records, and 20th Century Music for Recorder and Piano with Anita Randolfi.

She has given numerous premieres, including works by Eleanor Cory, Ursula Mamlok, Roger Zahab, Kevin McCarter and Jacob Goodman.

Ms. Eckert serves on the keyboard, chamber music and theory faculty of Hunter College, where she was a 1998 recipient of the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. She has been teaching piano and chamber music in the Preparatory Division of Mannes The New School for Music since 1983. She is the founder and director of Pianophoria!, which in 2008 completed its fifth season, and maintains a private piano studio in Manhattan.

A native of Terre Haute, Indiana, Ms. Eckert holds degrees in Piano Performance from Indiana University School of Music and SUNY at Stony Brook. Teachers have included Jorge Bolet, Gilbert Kalish, Claude Frank, William Masselos, Seymour Bernstein, Luis Batlle, and Lucy Greene. She has participated as a fellow at the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood and the Yale School of Music Summer Chamber Music Festival and also studied at the Aspen and Interlochen Music Festivals.
