Special Salon Meeting Announced
Sunday, August 11, 2019 10:01 AM
Dear members,
When I was in Taiwan last December, I happened to meet a very distinguished older composer named Shing-Kwei Tzeng (http://www.tzeng.idv.tw/). When we were discussing things, I naturally told him about the Composers Circle. By chance, he will be visiting New York on August 26 and would very much like to meet some of the members of our organization. In order to accommodate this, I have set up a special extra salon for 2-4:30 PM on Monday afternoon, August 26, at the MacKay Studio at the Opera Center, our usual location. We can treat this as a normal salon, where you will be invited to bring and present your own works as well, although I would like to give Mr. Tzeng a good portion of the time to allow him to present some of his works as well as, possibly, other Taiwanese composers. Perhaps we can even suggest an exchange of pieces with Taiwan, as we have done with Alabama and Moscow, although I have not discussed this with him yet. His English is very good, so there would be no problem with the language.
I know that it is highly unusual to have a salon on a weekday in August, and I have agreed to cover the rental costs for this day. I hope you will be able to attend. Please send me your suggestions for works you may want to present, and I will try to prepare an list of works for it. We will not have our usually business meeting beforehand, although we will have refreshments at the end.
Please let me know if you can attend, and I look forward to seeing you on August 26.
