On August 20, at the Main Auditorium, West Australian Academy of Performing Arts, PerthPhilip Everall gave the Australian premiere of Glancesfor bass clarinet, vibraphone, and piano at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts in Perth. He originally commissioned and premiered the piece in NYC in 2009.
On August 24, at 1pm at the French Garden Restaurant and Bistro, Sebastopol, CA, as part of First Look Sonoma's 2013 Gala, Max's father father and luminary tenor John Duykers will perform a short preview excerpt of The Potato King of Block 72-A, a multi-media vocal performance piece currently in development. The piece was originally commissioned by the Jerome Foundation (as Apricots of Andujar). It is being reshaped to tell the fact/fiction story of the first Japanese-American millionaire, a potato farmer in central CA, who was forced into an internment camp during WWII. The piece is being developed with Philip Kan Gotanda (librettist), Joel Davel (performer) and Melissa Weaver (director) and will be premiered in 2015.
