The wonderfully talented violinist Esther Nohwill premiere my new piece The Table Where We Metfor dance at Stony Brook University’s Wang Center. This is a commission by Iron Works on the Edge and choreographer Amy Yopp Sullivan, and features African contemporary dancer Lacina Coulibalyand twelve students of SBU’s Center for Dance, Movement, and Somatic Learning. The hour-long piece features Esther Noh playing live with a score of over 550 samples of her string quartet Praxis that I shaped and molded to fit the choreography with earthy grooves, ambient collages, and expressive movement.
