Tamara Cashour's Theater-Opera: Bloody Fire, Unchaste Desire

Tuesday, January 10, 2012 9:11 PM

Tamara Cashour' new opera company will co-present, along with Lovestreet Theatre: BLOODY FIRE, UNCHASTE DESIRE, a theatre-opera hybrid piece that features operatic settings of Shakespeare, a few of his well-known scenes, along with incidental music by Henry Purcell and Tamara herself.

Tamara writes:

I am primarily Musical Director/Conductor, but will also sing and act the Lady Macbeth Sleepwalking Scene/Una macchia and as well will be soloist/conductor for my 2 pieces of incidental music. Every cast member functions as both actor/singer, and in some instances, instrumentalist.

Although I function strictly as Music Director/Performer in this particular production, I developed the particular format of this show as an experimental template which my company intends to stage in future incarnations utilizing some of my own staging ideas. I formed OperAvant, Inc. as an outgrowth of my MA in Interdisciplinary Studies (Opera Production/Direction and Avant-garde Performance Studies) at New York University's Gallatin School; it is intended as a repertory company for interdisciplinary-minded actors, opera singers and others to exercise their particular developed crafts in music/theatre in one unique setting. The company will also showcase newly written hybrid works for opera/theatre. Watch for our website: www.operavantinc.com, to come in 2012.

Hoping you all will be able to come by this week, if you are in New York. A poster is attached with all pertinent information; tickets (only $18) are still widely available for shows on Wednesday and Thursday as well as some remaining seats on the weekend. BLOODY FIRE, UNCHASTE DESIRE portends to be a show filled with 'funny' and travesti, or is that--tragedy?--watch out for flying rubber chickens!
