DINU GHEZZO will feature in a concert tonight being presented by the NYU Center for Ancient Studies (in conjunction with the extraordinary exhibit of Neolitic Art and Artifacs from Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova, dating to 5000-6000 years ago). Featuring the ICIA Players: Christine Ghezzo, soprano; Wendy Luck, flutes; Paul Lee, Violin, and Dinu Ghezzo, piano & electronics. The free entrance concert will be held on Fri., January 22nd, at 7.00 PM at the NYU Center for Ancient Studies, at 15 East 84th Street, in between Madison & Fifth Ave. If you intend to come, please reserve seats with the Center, at (212) 998-8100. TAMARA CASHOUR is performing January 25th in a Gala Benefit Fundraiser for Susan Stoderl’s new opera THE VEIL OF FORGETFULNESS, to be held at the Workmen’s Circle Theater in Manhattan. Selected scenes of VEIL will be performed, and attendees will have a chance to bid on a range of selections slated for the program, including arias, ensembles, show tunes and favorite standards. The Fundraiser is entitled GIVE INTO THE HABIT: An Evening of Divine Women, Wine and Song, and is performed in both evening gown as well as with selected costumes and props.  There should be plenty of fun-fare for everyone!

JOSEPH PEHRSON shares with us the next Composers Concordance presentation: a marathon concert entitled ‘Composers Play Composers’ on Sunday, January 31, 2010, 6:00 PM doors, 7:00-10:00PM performance time at the club Drom in New York, 85 Avenue A (between 5th & 6th), New York, NY. 212-777-1157. www.dromnyc.com. Live visuals by Astrid Steiner (luma.launisch) and media by Carmen Kordas.

This concert, in collaboration with VisionIntoArt, will consist of a 3 hour performance with 23 composers playing their own works. The marathon will have 3 sets with 2 short 10 minute breaks. Each set will start off with a trio composed by Franz Hackl, trumpet, Charles Coleman, baritone voice and Gene Pritsker on electric guitar. Works and composers featured in the marathon include Arthur Kampela playing and strumming the cello like a guitar, Joseph Pehrson’s piece for piano based on a Beatles song, a composition by Dan Cooper for 7-string electric bass, piano and percussion, a piece for voice and berimbau by Milica Paranosic, a work for soprano sax and piano by Alon Nechushtan, a piece for voice and electronics by Kamala Sankaram and a piano piece by Luis Andrei Cobo.

The 23 composers are:  ROGER BLANC, Thomas Bo, Luis Andrei Cobo, Charles Coleman, Dan Cooper, Larry Goldman, David Gotay, Patrick Grant, Franz Hackl, DON HAGAR, Arthur Kampela,  Alon Nechushtan, Daniel Palkowski, Milica Paranosic, Akmal Parwez, JOSEPH PEHRSON, Gene Pritsker, Paola Prestini, Jody Redhage, Kamala Sankaram, William Schimmel, Andrew Violette, and Theodore Wiprud.

Tickets are $10 with a mandatory 2-drink minimum.

Congratulations to EUGENE MARLOW who has been awarded a Meet The Composer Grant. The grant is in support of a performance by Eugene Marlow’s Heritage Ensemble on February 27, 2010, 8:00pm. at the Brooklyn Heights Synagogue, 131 Remsen Street in in Brooklyn. On Tuesday February 2 at 8PM, soprano SOFIA DIMITROVA will present a recital at Saint Peter’s Church at the Citigroup Center, 619 Lexington Avenue at 54th Street. There will be a premiere of RICHARD RUSSELL’s “A Poe Fantasia” on poems of Edgar Allan Poe, a premiere by composer David Tcimpidis, and pieces by PAUL MORAVEC, Evan Lewis, and György Kurtág. Sofia is joined by violinist STANICHKA DIMITROVA and accompanist Catherine Miller. Suggested donation is $10.
